How to Chose a Home Embroidery Machine

There are a bewildering number of different home embroidery machines on the market, each having its own special features. Before purchasing a machine, you'll need to take some time to consider what you want to do with it, and which features are most important to you. This article explains the most important factors to consider when choosing a home embroidery machine.

Combination Sewing And Embroidery Or Embroidery Only Machine

Some machines can only embroider. They cannot sew standard sewing machine stitches. They can embellish, but not mend, or sew garments. This type of machine is perfect if you already have a sewing machine and want an additional machine for embroidery, or if you don't sew but want to embroider ready-made items, crafts, or garments.

Combination machines can both sew and embroider. It's a regular computerized sewing machine with all the features and stitches for constructing garments, quilts, or other projects. Plus it can embellish. Some have separate embroidery units that you attach when you want to embroider, while others have built-in embroidery functions. A combination machine is for you if you want a sewing machine too, if you want to upgrade your old sewing machine, or if your space is limited and you want both functions in one compact machine.

Ease Of Use

How easy is it to use? That's the number one question I get asked by people looking to buy an embroidery machine.

Look first at the buttons and control screen. How do you select designs, fonts, borders? What's the process for stitching out a design? How easy is it to import additional designs? Do the menus and sequences make sense to you? Can you find the functions?

What kind of information or help does the machine give you and are the messages in English or geek-anguage?

In addition, some machines have features such as automatic threading or thread cutting that make your life easier.

Maximum Embroidery Field Size

The embroidery field or frame size is the largest area that the machine can stitch in. It can't stitch outside this area even if the hoop is larger. Therefore, this is the largest design that you can stitch at one time. Most designs are available for the standard 4x4 inch size, but some require a 5x7 or even larger field.

You need to think about the types of things you want to embellish. And remember that embroidery can be addicting, and your creative ideas will expand as you get into it. Many people say they wish they had a larger size, but of course that comes with a higher price tag.

Downloading Additional Designs

Sooner or later, you'll want to stitch designs that aren't built-in to your machine. There's a wealth of designs available both for free download and to purchase. But you need a way to get them into the machine for stitching.

Many older and low-end machines are limited to reading special embroidery cards or even floppy disks. This is the most difficult option, but could work for you if you don't have access to a computer.

In addition to a card slot, newer machines have a USB port for easily importing additional designs. There are two types: One allows you to connect the machine to your computer for transferring designs. The other type of USB port (which is my favorite method) accepts a thumb or flash drive. You copy the designs to the thumb drive with your computer and then stick the drive in the embroidery machine for stitching.

Budget and Value for Money

Home embroidery machines cost anywhere from less than 500 dollars to many thousands of dollars. The high-end machines perform more functions, are faster and/or heavier duty. But you may not need or want all of these functions - some will be more important to you than others. It's always a tradeoff. Often you can get some of the advanced capabilities without spending a fortune by using embroidery software that runs on your computer to create and edit the designs.

And nowadays, some of the more affordable machines offer a surprising range of features for the money.

You'll need to set a realistic budget, remembering to include money for supplies such as thread and stabilizer to get started. Whether you'll need to buy software right away depends on your machine, and what you want to do with it.

As with any major purchase, you want to choose the best machine for you, and get the best value for your money. If you're in the market for a high-end machine costing thousands of dollars, you should find a reliable dealer that offers good training and support, and test-drive all the machines.

If you want a more affordable home embroidery machine that offers a lot of value for the money, check out the Brother SE400 which is a 4x4 inch, combination sewing and embroidery machine or the Brother PE770 which is a 5x7 inch, embroidery-only machine.

We are at the traditional embroidery skills lose?

Only 20 years ago the term embroidery was something that images of our mothers and grandmothers are called aprons, clothing or tactful for hours embroidering tapestries for use with the upholstery. It seems now, that with the every increasing dependence on technology, the younger generations are not be taught the skills and techniques of embroidery that used to be passed from mother to daughter.

The modern need for embroidery is normal for business use. Where a logo or motif on a shirt or t-shirt is stitched. These are mass produced on automated sewing machines. All that is required is a little graphic design, then the design is uploaded to the computer and the sewing machine does the rest of the work, often there is very little need for a human presence, even those of supervision. With these automated systems, there is little call for the process of hand embroidery.

Yes hand embroidery has still a very large trailer; the actual type of embroidery, which is often only consider what the masses a good hobby. The most popular being cross stitch embroidery. We must still hand embroidery?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Although, with the demise of the traditional embroidery techniques, there is soon a shortage of people with the skills needed to carry out restoration projects on heirloom pieces of work with this cross and methods.

The new technology of the embroidery is a bad thing?

No it's not, for many companies it automates the process of creating the embroidery. And it may mean that a new design can be created in very short time, especially as there is always a call to more complex cross stitch embroidery designs. What does is delete, the skills to original pieces of embroidery art work based on the cross itself. Traditional embroidery not to take a picture and make it a piece of embroidery; rather it uses a mixture of very specific sticking to a very pleasant design or impression of images, like a piece of artwork.

So we lose really the traditional embroidery skills?

Yes, sure. More should be done to hand embroidery as a hobby and in many cases an art form. We must set a good example, and encourage the next generation to explore some of the wonderful things that can be created by means of traditional embroidery methods.

The Pfaff embroidery machine that I want to review here is the creative 2144, this is a combination sewing and embroidery machine.

Pfaff machine have made this very easy to use for both sewing and embroidery, embroidery is in fact made very friendly.

I'm not going to claim that this machine is all singing all dancing, but it has plenty of opportunities for the user and what they offer is very efficient.

There is the possibility to resize each design you choose, you can make it bigger or you can make it smaller by around 20%. It doesn't have to be set at one place that you can move it. You can change it by adding elements of a different design or add letters etc. You can rotate an image and you can repeat and.

The instructions tell you how you can combine different designs within the same hoop area and also how to do this by moving the hoop. If you wanted to a continuous line of each design you must move your would this hoop.

The machine Pfaff embroidery design use as a multi-can use any design hope no matter what you use. hoop

A very useful statement is information on what kind you use for different substances must. stabilizer This takes away all the guesswork.

You get information about how to fix your hoop good to your substance and how you can sew leather and avoid making of all brands.

The creative has very helpful for a separate motor spindle 2144 winding, so you can wear on your design, embroidering of spindle while using another to fill.

There is a warning light to tell you that the spindle so make sure this runs out is always on because if not the machine will continue to design without any thread. This is not the easiest situation to sort out.

If this happens, it is one way of returning to the point where the wire ran to enter the exact number that you want to return to insert. You have to find these exact sense to a few until you find the right one. If you use your free near you can forward and backward button to return the machine to the exact location. As I said, not easy but it can be done.

The best solution is to not to let this happen in the first place!

The machine embroidery Pfaff is simplicity itself, but should you more features than its built-in than you might want to think about purchasing software that additional costs but would you other features such as selecting colors of many many thread manufacturers plus other features.

Be included by default with the hoops that you are a large 140 x 225 mm and a small 80 x 80 mm including an adapter.

Pfaff deliver other hoops for you to add to your accessories such as a medium round Hoop, one for Embroidering on baseball caps, plus many hoops buttonhole. With this little lot would there really isn't much that you could not embroidery if you desired.

You can buy Pfaff designing for as little as $ 10 which distinguishes them from other manufacturers of machines. Pfaff have a good system, where you can choose to buy just a design or an entire book.

The machine embroidery Pfaff creative 2144 is so simple to learn that before you have done a lot all you will feel confident to packs of each project.

A disadvantage is the fact that you are not a kind of timer to tell you how much longer will take a design. Also, the thread colors that you see on the screen are not exact, they are simply generic.

If you wanted to see what would see a design using colors than other recommended that it could be difficult to visualize.

In General, a highly functional machine and I say very good for someone who just started to try the machine embroidery.

The resulting disks are really cute and can be used in a number of crafts.

You can create as many colors as you want and a variety of designs in the disks weave. You can either wool, Pearl cotton thread or just the stranded floss thread. But normally the stranded floss thread is not a preference as it can split and a bit messy. Take care that before you start sewing, leave a few inches of the wire of the back to create a loop. After the holes you can different patterns with different colors. There is no limit to the designs and patterns that you can make. If a kaleidoscope you can up with amazing cross available each time you embroidery. When you're ready to bind the ends of the wire in a double knot.

The only one thing can be a bit annoying is that possible that for some reason the holes in the outer most loops on the disk is not as symmetrical as in the rest of the disk. But thanks to the flexibility of the designs, this is not a major problem. You can then use the colorful embroidered disks for different purposes. You can either two disks back to back to make a pendant as adding texture. This can be used as a stylish hanger, as an accessory on a bag or denim jackets, sweaters, knitted as buttons on as a runner for a zip-lock or any other purpose you can think of. The Friday Blog Round-Up 10/21/11

First up this week, we have a post from Retail Minded which provides a checklist to ensure you’re ready for holiday shoppers.   It’s hard to believe that the holidays are almost upon us,  but they are,  and you need to be sure your business, whether brick and mortar or online, is ready for the onslaught.   While these tips are aimed more at brick and mortar businesses,  many of them could apply to a business that operates strictly online as well.

Second on the list is another edition of the Urban Entrepreneurs series from Urban Threads.   Can I just say I’m madly in love with this series?  I love to see people making a living through their art, and I love seeing the awesome things that people make.    The subject of this week’s profile makes clothing for Ren Faires and other events of that type.   Her stuff is cool and I really think she has a logical and measured approach to growing her business.

Third up this week is a technique that seasoned machine embroiderers may have already seen.  I haven’t seen it before and I think it’s cool, so it makes the round-up.   It’s called embossing,  and it apparently is  a terrific way to decorate textured fabrics like towels or fleece.   The end result is interesting and the post includes instructions on how to try embossing yourself.

Fourth at bat this week is a post about creating change and why sometimes we fail at it.    Creating change is tough.  Bucking the status quo is tough.   Going against the flow, taking a risk and accepting the consequences can be uncomfortable,   but we all owe it to ourselves to give our lives, and that includes jobs, relationships and health,  the best we can give.   This post is a good reminder that there will always be an excuse not to try to change things,  but we have to try anyway.

Fifth on the docket today is a post I bookmarked a few weeks back and then promptly forgot.   I’m sorry I forgot to mention it because I think this post is totally on target when it comes to how social media accounts should be handled.    I vote for human over corporate every time,  and I think the accounts that have a human face and voice are much more interesting.

Sewing embroidery designs in new ways

How many of you are always looking for new ways to use your embroidery designs-always or never? If you are, never overlooking the wonderful opportunities! You can optimize the use of each design? To see your library of designs if you combine a set of motifs from another routine can view? Have you noticed how embroidery design styles are changed in the last few years? This ancient motifs give a new look using the designs that you way back when again! Add new motifs to them, under or around creating a whole new look! My last big project, a wind Jacket men back, is a good example of what everyone with a little time and imagination can do!

With val already on us, I wanted something tropical in my
If it's still wardrobe & ready-to-wear anywhere in your home dec. The colors are just as exciting as leaves turning colors. Continue with the tropical look in Val, I remembered a windbreaker, with a hole that needed covering, in my closet. The substance is a aqua, "falling leaf" jacquard that would be perfect in both style & color!

I started with the 168-169 tropical scene components but wanted
to add other motives to cover the entire coat back. Next I added a colorful bird of series 166 flights of Fancy.

Although larger, these birds were just great if forefront
motives with the smaller tropical plants like background! When I
went back through my sets, up to 2 years old, that I found 117 Japanese vegetable with different motives who worked in what I had already suffocated to make a spectacular finished look. The scene had motifs from 4 completely different topics that I had never thought about putting together before.

When planning a large area that you want to give the effect is
almost covered, let another open effect. You want to most motifs to appear as merely an illusion, with only a few pieces of the focus in full fill. Often this can achieve this using the muted colors that almost blend into the color & brighter colors for the most important pieces of dust that you want to the real attention.

TIP: a great way to visualize how the whole "photo" print will look from 1: 1 size templates of the motives, cut them out and move like puzzle pieces until it is a feast for you.

The most important things to look at when creating a large area or scene are:

1. don't overdo it! Try not to fill every one inch of the large area make the scene to pressure.

2. don't worry about the exact placement – a random look is much more attractive, in particular on all 4 sides. Village motifs on a uneven manner.

3. don't limit yourself to motifs from a set-you would wind up with something less than spectacular!

4. think outside the box! You may be surprised at the sets you trek motifs from to create a whole new theme! Example: try cocks with florals or vegetables or a theme of fruit and flowers.

5. do not let the design colors do you like to consider them for the project. Very often will be a few changes to the colors give a whole new look to a pattern making it work with anything else that you would never have considered before.

If you do not "think outside the box", you are missing out further
the real pleasure & the ability to expand your creativity to optimise the use of your designs! To see what I mean, take a look at the photo of my ready wind jacket that is post on our website!

Wire artist has the superior designs & supplies you need all your creations as spectacular as you imagine them. You have invested a lot in your equipment; not the projects that you create with less than the very best with your equipment supplies & embroidery designs available anywhere in danger!

Quick Machine Embroidery Projects For Kids

Machine embroidery for kids is a dying art, although there are so many project possibilities they would enjoy. Part of the decline has to do with the fact that traditional embroidery is completed by hand and limited to a few designs with varying degrees of difficulty. With the increased technology advances in embroidery, machines give a broader range of design capabilities as well as faster results. Initially excited, the investment in machine embroidery seemed fun and full of possibilities with hopes of creating projects that kids would absolutely love. Over time the machine felt useless, turning knobs and touching buttons without producing any real results. If out of ideas on what to make with machine embroidery, try one of these simple projects that kids love!

Every year kids bring home new books to be covered the first day of school in most areas. As a kid, you may have used brown paper bags or Kraft paper, but the new hip fad is the expensive stretch covers that can be purchased at your local school supply store. With a little time, you can make fabric covers for all books, using fabrics that are kid-friendly. The easiest method for measuring your covers would be to fold the fabric around the book and inside the cover as one would with craft paper. Using pins, place where necessary to keep it together; Hem all edges and finish basic shape of cover so that it can easily be slipped onto books. This is a plain cover, but can be taken a step further. Using machine embroidery, books can be decorated with embroidered images and even the subject and your child's name. With subjects like math, reading, and social studies, the combinations are seemingly endless!

Children love to see their names on things, which is why it can be found all over the place, like on the walls, important work presentations, and even jeans. One of the most satisfying displays of ownership is their names on their door. Opened or closed, children know that this particular space in the house is theirs, where they can be themselves or the place where they are banished when in trouble. Using machine embroidery, you can stitch names as well as machine embroidered designs that fit their personalities for a quick project. Framing this fabric will give an extra touch, and you can hang it directly by a nail on the door or use a ribbon attached to the back for flair. Using different shapes and colors of frames for each child will give unique variety. For a more challenging project, use small hand-size frames to design one machine embroidery design letter in each and hang in different ways.

While lamination is a great option to preserve family memories such as letters or family portraits, using machine embroidery design gives the flexibility to be more involved in the process. First, trace the image onto freezer paper, then iron until the paper is attached to fabric. Use an embroidery machine to embroider over lines, being as careful as you would with any other project, changing colors as necessary. Or you can choose suitable embroidery designs for kids from a large online store. After you have completed these steps, remove your freezer paper to reveal your memory! This item can now be framed or if they are notes, stories, or letters, you can bind them for a special gift!

How to Make Use of Machine Embroidery Designs

If you are used to doing embroidery by hand it will probably take you quite a lot of patience, effort, as well as time in order to complete one project. If you wish to complete your work fast and more efficiently you could lookout for free machine embroidery designs. Doing your embroidery with a sewing machine with computerized designs will allow you to complete many projects in the time you were doing just one before.

Machine embroidery designs can be brought to life with the help of a traditional sewing machine. You need not go and buy a machine that is expensive if you wish to use some of the machine embroidery designs you can find for free. The standard sewing machine would be ideal provided you are skilled in manipulating the fabric. You will also need specific equipment in order to use machine embroidery designs on your fabric.

Your sewing machine should have a zigzag capability. Machines whose dog's teeth can be lowered would be suitable for you as you will find it easy to create zigzag designs conveniently with the help of these machines. An embroidery hoop is required to make machine embroidery designs. It will be easily available in a supply shop.

Any type of cloth can be used for making embroidery on it. It should be able to fit the embroidery hoop perfectly. The size of the material is vital for the overall look of the finished product. You should measure the fabric correctly before you start sewing.

The embroidery foot is a needle attached to a spring. It holds the fabric down on the workstation. You must have the right types of thread in order to do any type of needlework including embroidery. The patterns indicate the kind of thread needed. Rayon and polyester threads are commonly used for designs in sewing machine embroidering. A stabilizer helps to keep the material orderly and neat no matter how much you twist or rearrange the material. It helps you to work comfortably and faster.

Embroidery Sewing Machines - What are Your Choices?

The variety of embroidery sewing machines is amazing. There is no stitch or pattern that sophisticated modern machines can't perform. But how do you find a sewing machine that is best for you? Let's look at what is currently available on the market and compare best embroidery sewing machines.

Mechanical embroidery sewing machines - the simplest style

You can get a mechanical, electronic or computerized embroidery machine. The first sewing machines were mechanical controlled by a rotary wheel. Actually they have been on the market for almost 200 years. Some people still prefer to use a mechanical machine and their antique sewing machines like Singer or Brother work for them very well.

Mechanical embroidery machines have a limited selection of stitches, but they are inexpensive. They are not as easy to operate as electronic ones, but with a little bit of practice you can create beautiful embroidery.

Most respected sewing machine manufacturers still produce mechanical embroidery machines. Some of the more popular examples are Kenmore 11101, Elna 2005, Bernina 1008, Singer 6038 and Kenmore 15212

Electronic embroidery machines - easy and convenient

Even though mechanical machines work fine, most people prefer electronic ones. They are much simpler to operate, so you can concentrate on the creative part of your embroidery project. Electronic embroidery sewing machines are also lighter and more portable. There are hundreds of models available, since most modern sewing machines are electronic. You can find machines by Brother, Singer, Janome, Kenmore and Viking to suit any budget.

Not all electronic machines offer you the same features. Look at the number of stitches, and additional features available to see if particular model will suit your needs.

Computerized embroidery machines - most sophisticated technology

Computerized sewing machines use the most advanced technology to help you create beautiful embroidery easy and fast. They are basically the same as electronic embroidery machines, but with much more features. The machine uses a microprocessor, so you can load different patterns on a card and your machine reads the information from a card and creates a pattern all by itself. This allows you to create very sophisticated embroidery.

A computerized sewing machine can have many features. Here are some - automatic needle threader, multiple needle positions, mirror imaging, more the a hundred stitch functions, needle positions, a screen displaying stitch length, stitch patterns and width adjustment.

The only disadvantage of a computerized embroidery machine is its price - you will have to pay from $ 400 to $2000 for a good quality unit. The price depends on additional features and how much your machine can actually do. Popular models of computerized embroidery sewing machines are Brother SE270D, Singer CE-200 Quantum Futura and Singer Quantum XL-6000.

If you decide to go with the top technology machine with a microprocessor it makes sense to compare prices for the same model at several retailers. You can check your local craft and sewing supply shops, but you are more likely to find a better price online. There are many online shops that offer a great variety of different sewing and embroidery machines.

Finishing the Halloween Pumpkin as a StandUp

Posted by admin on Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Can you believe how quickly this month has been flying by?

Before you know it, it’ll be Halloween!

It’s a good thing we’ve come to the end of our Halloween Pumpkin Stitch-a-Long.

During this stitch-a-long we’ve learned two ways to make a 5-point star, and now it’s time to finish our project as a stand-up – like the one shown here..

.

.

Gather your supplies

The materials you will need include a chunk of dense 3/4? styrofoam, acid-free foam core board, fabric to cover backing, 5/8-inch ribbon, sewing needle and white thread (you can use single strands of embroidery floss or any other needlework thread), pins with balls at their heads,  scissors & cutters, low-temp glue gun and a glue stick.

…and of course your finished embroidery piece.

TIP: the dense version doesn’t show dimples and holes through the fabric like standard syrofoam will.

Cut the foam core and the foam backing, trim excess fabric

The foam core board and dense foam are cut to the same size, which should be about 1/4-inch larger around all 4 sides than the embroidered piece.

I used the design at is full size (not reduced or enlarged), so I cut my board and foam to 4×5 inches in size.

Trim the excess embroidery fabric around the edges of the design to withing 2 inches of the embroidery, discarding the excess.

Attach the embroidery

Center the embroidered piece of the foam core board.

Hold the embroidered piece in place by inserting pins along the foam in the edges.

These pins will be removed later.

Then, attach the fabric to the foam core board by turning under 1/4-inch around the raw edges of the fabric, mitering the corners as if wrapping a package, and lace the piece to the backing. Remove the pins.

I have used red here fo contract, but please use white.

Prepare the backing and assemble

Wrap the 3/4? styrofoam piece with fabric.  You can use the glue gun to secure the fabric in place.

Place the laced front onto the wrapped backing section and glue them together with a few dabs of the low-temp glue in each corner.

TIP: Low temp is easier to remove than hot glue, so you can disassemble and clean the project at a later date ir needed.

Glue a length of ribbon around the edges of the piece, covering the joined areas.

If desired, insert a pin at the corners of the base of the stand-up as feet.  If you have made a larger stand-up, 1/2? beads can also be placed on a pin and inserted as feet.  Secure the feet in place with a dab of glue.

Add a ribbon to the top, tucked in place with pins and your stand-up is complete and ready to use!
